摘要
Poly(vinylidenefluoride) is one of the most widely used polymer matrices in the membrane industry for its excellent mechanical and chemical properties. However, its inherent hydrophobicity needs to be solved to improve the performance of PVDF membranes. In this work, poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) was grafted onto poly(vinylidene fluoride) by gamma irradiation. By controlling the monomer concentration and the absorbed dose, products with grafting degrees from 4.2 to 30.8% were obtained. The membranes made from the grafted poly(vinylidene fluoride) with poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) have a bigger thickness, better hydrophilicity, and higher bubble point pressure than their blended counterpart with the same poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) content in their casting solution. Our results showed that grafted copolymer could improve the hydrophilicity and integrity of membranes, and lower the operation cost of membranes. Thus, it can be used as an additive or a matrix material in membrane fabrication.
