Synergistic trifluoroacetamide regulating crystal orientation and energy alignment for tin-based perovskite solar cells

Tin halide perovskites are promising materials for lead-free perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with high power con-version efficiency (PCE) due to their more suitable band gap and environmentally friendly characteristics. However, the easy oxidation of Sn2+ to Sn4+ accompanied with the formation of massive and detrimental bulk defects results in the inferior PCE of Sn-based PSCs. Here, we deliver a strategy of introducing a multifunctional medium trifluoroacetamide (TFA) into the tin halide perovskite. The coordination between TFA and perovskite enables highly ordered crystallization orientation with compact film morphology, suppressed Sn2+ oxidation, lower defect density, and improved electrical transport achieved through better energy level alignment. The fabricated FASnI3-based PSC shows a PCE of 11.74%, and the efficiency attenuation is less than 14% after 1800 h of aging test. This work opens up a new avenue to improve the efficiency and stability of Sn-based perovskites.
